Molluscum contagiosum
  • Molluscum contagiosum  is a common viral skin disease characterized by small bumps on the skin .It is a self limited cutaneous infections(Usually resolves completel caused by a Large DNA pox virus that affects both children & adults.
  • DNA poxvirus  ,it’s see to large in microscopical appearance known (200.300.100 nm),causes Molluscum contagiosum Four sub types – MCV-1,MCV-2,MCV-3,MCV-4
  • Can be spread by direct skin contact ,autoinoculation & vertical transmission.
  • The virus can be replicated in the cytoplasm of epithelial cells – produced cytoplasmic inclusions
Signs & Symptoms of Molluscum Contagiosum :

The skin lesions are found  in body(Commonly present on the genitals,lower abdomen & inner upper thighs in adults of the infection was sexually transmitted) appearing as bumps(papules) are following point importants..

  • Elevated, dome-shaped & flesh coloured
  • Have a small umbilication or dimple on the center of lesions
  • Have a central core of white, waxy materials
  • Patient easily removed by scratching or rubbing that can spread the virus to near skin
  • Painless but can itch

 

Causes of Molluscum Contagiosum :

The virus can be transmitted  to adjacent skin through scratching or rubbing the bumps & even spreads to another one .

The virus which causes MC spreads easily through :

  • Direct skin to skin contact
  • In sexually active adults – sexual contact with an affected person
  • Contact with contaminated objects e.g. toys,towels,& faucet handles
Treatment of Molluscum contagiosum :
  •   Cryotherapy
  • Laser treatment
  • Chemical cautery
Risk Factors of Molluscum contagiosum :
  • In Immune system – immune function may interpreted by using steroids prolonged, chemotherapy or viral infection or other causes.so upon this factor weaks immune system & it become risk for this disease
  • Individuals with atopic dermatitis may risk for this disease also
  • Children between the ages of 1 to 10 years
  • Individuals in adjacent contact with infected persons .e.g.Health care professionals,teachers, students, contact sports, participants & etc.

 

Prevention of Molluscum Contagiosum :

To help prevent the spread of the virus  throy following steps

  • Washing hands : You should keep hands – neat & clean through maintaining personal hygiene & then you can expect prevention of speeding the virus
  • Avoid touching the papules (bumps): scratchingor rubbing on the infected area can be spread the virus to adjacent area’s skin or another one
  • Don’t share personal items : You should not use another’s  towels  ,socks,toys,hairbrushes & etc items
  • Avoid sexual contact : if you have affected with Molluscum contagiosum  in private parts such as genitals area ,you could not be sex with your partners because you have to treat the bumps & have to completely disappeared & then you can do that otherwise “No,No,No ………..Sex”
  •   Cover the bumps : you should use a watertight bandage to cover your bumps if chance to spread another person in contact with infected skin .Always you should be care youy skin & try to keep healthg best .
