Laghu masurika or chicken pox in ayurveda dermatology

In Ayurveda, chicken pox is referred to as “Laghu Masurika.” It is caused by the vitiation of the Pitta and Kapha doshas, leading to the formation of small, itchy blisters on the skin.

Management of chicken pox in Ayurveda involves the following:

  1. Diet: The patient should be given light and easily digestible food. Foods that are sour, spicy, oily, or fried should be avoided. A diet that includes barley, moong dal, ghee, and buttermilk is recommended.
  2. Herbal remedies: Ayurvedic herbs like neem, turmeric, and sandalwood can be used to soothe the skin and reduce the itching. These herbs can be applied topically in the form of a paste or added to the patient’s bathwater.
  3. Lifestyle modifications: The patient should rest and avoid strenuous activities. They should also avoid exposure to the sun and maintain personal hygiene to prevent the spread of infection.
  4. Ayurvedic therapies: Ayurvedic therapies like Panchakarma, which involves detoxifying the body through a combination of massage, herbal remedies, and other treatments, may be recommended in severe cases of chickenpox.

It is important to note that Ayurvedic management of chicken pox should be done under the guidance of a qualified Ayurvedic practitioner, and medical treatment should not be avoided
