Impetigo
is a bacterial infection of superficial skin caused by staphylococcus aureus and Group A streptococcus (Streptococcus pyogens ),appeared as red-sore or yellowish lesions on face or around mouth specially in child age .
- Dermatomicroscopic appearance of Bacteria:
- Cocci in cluster
- Short chains
- Diplococci
- And single cocci
Microscopical Diagnosis is localized skin infections (Impetigo)
Mechanism of impetigo
Bullous impetigo – toxin mediated erythoderma-epidermal layer sloughs -skin loss
Non-bullous impetigo -stapylococcus aureus + Streptcoccus pyogenes
Clinical Features of impetigo
- Bullous impetigo : larger blister formed ,ecthyma form in serious conditions
- Non -bullous impetigo: red sore,that rapidly rupture,ooze for couple of days &then form yellowish brown crust
Treatment of impetigo :
- Topical antibiotic -Muporicin ointment %
- For systemic ,Penicillin -Flucloxacillin is the better drugs for this disease
