Impetigo

is a bacterial infection of superficial skin caused by staphylococcus aureus and Group A streptococcus (Streptococcus pyogens ),appeared as red-sore or yellowish lesions on face or around mouth specially in child age .

 

  1. Dermatomicroscopic appearance of Bacteria:
  • Cocci in cluster
  • Short chains
  • Diplococci
  • And single cocci

Microscopical Diagnosis is localized skin infections (Impetigo)

Mechanism of impetigo

Bullous impetigo – toxin mediated erythoderma-epidermal layer  sloughs -skin loss

Non-bullous impetigo -stapylococcus aureus + Streptcoccus pyogenes

 

Clinical Features of impetigo

  1. Bullous impetigo : larger blister formed ,ecthyma form in serious conditions
  2. Non -bullous impetigo: red sore,that rapidly rupture,ooze for couple of days &then form yellowish brown crust

 

 

Treatment of impetigo :

  • Topical antibiotic -Muporicin ointment %
  • For systemic ,Penicillin -Flucloxacillin  is the better drugs for this disease
